The Bipeds is a dance-theater company under the artistic direction of choreographer, Stacy Wolfson and banjo player/songwriter, Curtis Eller. Wolfson and Eller have devised a unique compositional approach that combines movement, music and lyrics to create a peculiar and compelling hybrid of dance and song. They cast the finished pieces with performers possessing the curiosity, technical proficiency and requisite disdain for boundaries to delve into one another's mediums. The company made their theatrical debut in June 2016 with the evening-length, Never Enough Better Nothing, followed by a series of music and dance duets entitled Hypnagogiacs. 2018 saw the debut of their most ambitious stage production, 54 Strange Words. During the great plague of 2020, The Bipeds shifted their focus to producing dance films, including, Bury the Light, Abandoned Spaces, and a series of 53 short collaborative pieces called The Bird Song Project. 2023 saw the premiere of the company's surreal, science fiction, production, We Choose the Moon. Their work has been presented in a variety of theatres and festivals in North Carolina, Chicago, Virginia and New York City. American Dance Festival has commissioned the company to create a new piece for their 2024 season. This piece, entitled We Know This By Heart, will hit the stage at Durham's Reynolds Theatre on July 7 @ 7:30pm!
